The 18th Asian Games were successfully held from August 18th to September 2nd, 2018 in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, as well as in other areas such as Bandung and several places in West Java and Banten. A total of 45 countries participated in the 2018 Asian Games, including the host country, and 40 sports competed at the 2018 Asian Games.
The President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), HH Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah explained that Indonesia wants to host the 18th Asian Games in 2018, not in 2019 as previously scheduled because there is a presidential election in 2019, and Indonesia has fulfilled the requirements. all OCA requirements to host the Asian Games.
For the first time, the Asian Games were held in two cities simultaneously, Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, and Palembang, the capital of the province of South Sumatra. The opening and closing ceremonies of the Asian Games were held at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta.
Archery, hockey, tennis, softball, baseball, and basketball all occur at the main stadium, Gelora Bung Karno. Meanwhile, Palembang held 10 sports at 11 venues in the Jakabaring Sports City complex. Sports include basketball, rowing, canoeing, shooting, rock climbing, women’s soccer, sepak takraw, tennis, triathlon, and beach volleyball. Wisma Atlet is a temporary residence for athletes and 2018 Asian Games officials.
China won overall medals at the 18th Asian Games with 132 gold medals, 92 silver medals, and 65 bronze medals, making the country the winner of 10th Asian Games in a row since 1982. The last medal at the 2018 Asian Games was a mixed triathlon. at Jakabaring Sport City Palembang on Sunday, with Japan winning gold, South Korea silver, and Hong Kong bronze. The second and third medalists were Japan (75-56-74) and South Korea (49-58-70). Meanwhile, the host country, Indonesia, is in fourth place with 31 gold medals, 24 silver medals, and 43 bronze medals.
