Overview of Coal Potential in Central Kalimantan
According to data from the Geological Agency in 2022, Central Kalimantan Province is one of the provinces in Indonesia with the largest coal resources and reserves, particularly for metallurgical coal.
Metallurgical coal is high-calorific coal used in steel mills and has low levels of ash, moisture, sulfur, and phosphorus.
The total coal resources and reserves in Central Kalimantan Province reached 8,418.8 million tons, as reported by the Geological Agency in 2022. The potential reserves of metallurgical coal in Central Kalimantan Province are said to be 2,440.2 million tons.
In terms of production, Central Kalimantan produced 22.9 million tons in 2021. This production is higher compared to the years 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.
