Overview of Coal Potential in South Sumatra
Indonesia is rich in resources and reserves of coal. Many provinces are recorded to hold millions of tons of coal reserves.
The Geological Agency documents the provinces with coal deposits, ranging from Aceh, Bengkulu, Jambi, Riau, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, to South Sulawesi.
According to data from the Geological Agency, South Sumatra holds coal resources totaling 24.021 million tons. Muara Enim Regency is included in the list of areas with coal resources in South Sumatra.
Coal production in South Sumatra has been increasing from year to year. In 2021, South Sumatra was able to produce 67.4 million tons, a higher figure compared to 2020 which reached 52.4 million tons.
