Overview of Coal Potential in South Kalimantan Province
The province of South Kalimantan is known to have a significant potential for coal reserves. Among other provinces, South Kalimantan ranks second as a coal producer after East Kalimantan (Source: Minerba, 2022).
In 2022, coal production in South Kalimantan reached a recorded 178.9 million tons. This production was higher compared to 2021, which was 178.4 million tons.
The coal reserves in South Kalimantan are distributed across various regions such as Tanjung, Barabai, Kandangan, Rantau, Satui, Sarongga, Mangkalapi, Pulau Laut and Pulau Sebuku, Hulu Sungai Utara, Hulu Sungai Tengah, Hulu Sungai Selatan, Kotabaru, Banjar, and Tanah Laut.
